Our Louie...A Tribute

This post is to honour and celebrate our beloved cat, Louie, who was killed by a car on Tuesday morning. He was a magnificent and affectionate animal who gave so much pleasure to George and me. He had a good life, as this photo illustrates, but he loved the outdoors, had his own cat door and could come and go as he pleased. Unfortunately it was this that led to his untimely demise. George buried him in the back between two pine trees, near the graves of some of our other cats, Danby and Charlie.

I've been too upset to do any postings till now. I know that when you have a pet you run the risk of heartbreak. Love for people and animals always comes at a price. But it's a price I've always been willing to pay. And I'll do it again, though not today. One thing George and I have agreed upon: the next cat will be an indoor cat!

Poor Louie. He was a great cat and I'm really sorry. I know how hard it is to lose a kitty.

I'm so sorry, Fran. The heartbreak of losing a pet is hard to bear, especially when it's unexpected like this. My thoughts are with you.

We've ended up with three indoor cats (for various reasons!) but they have this thing we call the kitty palace, which is really just an outdoor kitty cage we got from a place in Toronto that makes these things. Lots of shelves, a hammock, etc. The cats all enjoy spending time in there. I think it makes it a bit easier for them to be indoor cats when they have a place outside where they can sit and watch the world go by. Anyway, that's a thought for the future. It helped ease the transition for one of our cats.

Here's to Louie, who was a very handsome kitty.

Louie was a real character. I'm so sad to hear the news. For however long we have these companions, it's always a shock when they go. I know you'd rather have had the good times than the heartbreak...but that's the risk we all take. RIP, Louie. You gave him a great life.

So sorry Fran. It's heartbreaking to lose a cherished member of the family. Sounds like Louie died much-loved and having had a full and rich life.

At least Louie died in freedom and quickly. I lost a cat I brought over from Switzerland ...to a fisher! Still, I'm thankful for all the beautiful memories of my beloved Annette. Now I have a declawed "indoor cat" who insists on her ourdoor strolls. I'd rather let her be happy than safe.
