I look for beauty and truth in everything. It's not always there of course but I try to find it or make it happen. I love people who make me laugh.

To Paint or to Potter?

Today I'm torn between my garden and my painting. I just took this shot of some of our daffodils, trying to get that 'Dr Zhivago' scene when spring finally arrives, the orchestra obliges with 'Lara's Theme' and Omar Shariff has big plans for Julie Christie. But I also have some paintings that are calling me. What to do?

Oh, sigh, what a lovely dilemma!

I have quite a collection of unfinished(?) pieces done in mixed media, experiments and explorations that I want to work on and perhaps exhibit some day even though people expect to see my more 'gettable' watercolours. Right now that side of me is wanting out. It's supposed to rain on Sunday so maybe I'll work on some of them then.

I started this one using crumpled tissue-paper, glue, acrylic, metallic and oil glazes plus some India ink. It could be a satellite image or some microscopic virus. It could be finished. still not sure.

I started this one using pulled-apart dryer sheets as a matrix and acrylic glazes swirled around and imprinted thru' the dryer-sheets which were removed after the glazes dried. It has a frigid arctic look but needs something...what?

This one is almost finished I think but will I work on it today or go outside and play?

The answer, my friend, is blowing in the wind...

Your work is amazing and I find it interesting to go a different path once in a while.

I hope you chose spending the day in the glorious sunshine. It is so good for the soul and the mind so when you return to the studio some of your questions will have an answer!

Yes, the sunshine won and it will again today!

Hi Fran
Your reference to Dr. Zhivago made me smile. It's my all time favorite movie and I know exactly what you
mean by the daffodil scene. I have the same dilemma.
Do I tend the garden that will ultimately provide the
floral inspiration I need for painting or do I just I go to my happy place and hope to emerge happier!

I guess we're both incurable romantics, Joanna. For me the garden won. I'll paint on a rainy day.
